To Whom It May Concern

Re: Captain James Nixon

I am the chairman of the Victorian branch of the Aviation Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (ALAANZ). One of the key components of our charter is to develop the practise of the law affecting the aviation industry. Consistent with that objective, we hold an annual conference which took place this year in Melbourne on 1-3 May 2019.

As a co-chair of the organising committee I invited Captain Nixon to be a guest speaker and provide our membership with a pilot’s perspective as to the continual growth in rules, regulations and paper work that a pilot has to deal with.

James was a warm and engaging speaker. He entertained the audience with anecdotes but at the same time delivered a powerful message. His address was entitled
“Keeping the Lawyers out of the cockpit” and was directed towards reducing the plethora of documentation that pilots need to deal with on the basis that it serves to distract them for performing their primary function. It was a well-structured presentation that was received warmly by the audience and we would welcome the opportunity for James to return and address future conferences.

I can recommend him as a guest speaker.

Yours Faithfully,

John Ribbands
